Tourists evacuated from East China island as typhoon approaches

HANGZHOU: Some 900 foreign and Chinese tourists were persuaded by the Chinese soldiers to evacuate from Nanji, a resort island off east China's Zhejiang Province on Wednesday as the Typhoon Morakot approaches, Xinhua news agency reported Thursday.

The provincial meteorological station monitored the center of the typhoon at 950 km east of Zhejiang's coast Thursday morning, with wind speeds up to 144 km per hour.

The observatory expected Morakot to strengthen into a strong typhoon, as it moved towards Zhejiang and Fujian provinces at a speed of 20 to 25 km per hour Thursday. It is forecast to make landfall late Friday or Saturday.

The ferry services to the mainland will also be stopped on Thursday.

A tourist from Jinhua City, Zhejiang told Xinhua that: "We didn't expect the typhoon would be so strong, and had planned to stay on the island for another two days.

"We are grateful that the soldiers helped us book ferry tickets and leave the island safely before Morakot arrives".

The Shanghai-based East China Weather Forecast Center under the State Bureau of Oceanic Administration on Thursday warned coastal units to take high tide precautions, as Morakot would hit at a peak tide time, and the storm tide in Zhejiang and Fujian would surge 150 to 250cm on Saturday. -- BERNAMA

Recess Rally: Rachel Maddow reveals the Republican organization ties behind 'grassroots' recess rally

Maddow shows how tied recess rally is to Republicans. Photo by Paul Schultz

In the video below Maddow does a detailed analysis of the website www.recessrally.com. Maddow looks into the prominent sponsors of the Recess Rally and demonstrates just how much the organization is a result of Republican operatives and elitists as opposed to your "average Joe middle class American."

As Maddow points out, some of the listed supporters of Recess Rally include Michelle Malkin a noted conservative Fox News commentator, a former speech writer for George Bush, a regional field director Bush-Cheney 04, a former Washington D.C. lobbyist, the former Director of the Illinois Republican party, the funder of the swift boat ads attacking John Kerry, and finally the owner of the largest privately-held oil company in America. These are the "middle class Americans" bringing you the "grassroots" protests.

As a side note at the beginning of the video Maddow explains how end of life consultations are actually not that controversial and not merely a Democratic idea. It turns out both parties have been supporting the ability of people to make living wills for over twenty years without controversy. It is only now that Republicans are trying to take the non-controversial issue to try and scare old people into believing they will be euthanized.

Miley Cyrus "BJ" leaked photos rumors

The internet is flooded with people searching "Miley Cyrus BJ photos" and "Miley Cyrus leaked photos". People are hoping to see a photo of Miley, who is only 16, performing oral sex. Many people searching for the Miley picture may also be under 18, but many are probably older than 18. To those that are over 18 please remember Miley Cyrus is a 16 year old little girl. Looking at a picture of a minor performing sexual acts is considered child pornography.

The truth is the photo of Miley giving a "BJ" is fake. The picture has clearly been photoshopped only to start vicious rumors. The website called the Paparazzis has showed how the fake photo of Cyrus was created. Please leave the poor girl alone.

Megan Fox not suing person behind topless pics leak

Hollywood actress Megan Fox has decided not to sue the person who leaked her topless shots to the tabloids. She believes that karma will do the job for her. The ‘Transformers’ star was stunned to see her topless photos from her upcoming film Jennifer''s Body online - and immediately considered taking legal action.

However, she said that a second glance made her realise the shots weren't quite what they seemed.

"I had booby stickers on. They make these silicone stickers that go on over your nipple,”

Contactmusic quoted Fox as telling Entertainment Weekly. "If I'd been actually topless, I would have sued someone... I know who, and I never did anything about it. It''s her karma to deal with, not mine," she added.

Fire David Letterman campaign takes root

David Letterman admitted pangs of regret over jokes he made last week about Sarah Palin's daughter.

He may be regretting them a little more now.

A Web site called FireDavidLetterman.com is organizing a rally outside Letterman's show at the Ed Sullivan theater on Tuesday June 16 at 4:30 p.m.

And while Letterman has repeatedly reminded viewers his comments were jokes, the campaign's organizers seem dead serious about getting the late-night stalwart canned.

Sponsored by New York State Assemblyman Brian Kolb, along with an attorney and radio host John Ziegler, the site also provides contacts - including major advertisers and CBS bigwigs - to whom people can complain about what many felt was a tasteless and potentially harmful quip by the late night talk leader.

"Firing Mr. Letterman would send a clear message that CBS will not tolerate any of its employees even an established media figure like Mr. Letterman making demeaning and degrading comments about women," Kolb, a Republican from the Western New York state district of Canandaigua, wrote in a letter to CBS chief Les Moonves.

The accompanying Facebook group and an ancillary one have about 1,800 members to date.

While the actual chances of Letterman being fired would seem to be slim, the controversy comes just as the late-night landscape is in flux, as Conan O'Brien makes the transition to the earlier time slot vacated by Jay Leno.

The campaign's supporters point to shock jocks Don Imus and Howard Stern as examples of high-profile hosts who crossed the line - and were held accountable by their employers.

Letterman made the offending joke on Tuesday night's show, following a visit to New York by Sarah Palin during which she attended a Yankee game with Rudy Giuliani.

"One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game," Letterman said, "during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez."

Letterman contends that the outcry over the comment was due at least in part to a misunderstanding.

He had intended the joke to be about Palin's oldest daughter, Bristol, 18, who did in fact become pregnant by her then-boyfriend Levi Johnston, when in fact the daughter attending the game was Willow, age 14.

The loudest response from no less than Palin herself, who went on the "Today" show Thursday morning to rant against the comedian.

After telling Matt Lauer she didn't buy Letterman's "convenient excuse," the governor said she would never let her daughter near him - implying he can't be trusted around underage girls.

Letterman apologized on Thursday night's show, saying about the jokes, "Do I regret telling them? I think probably I do. But you know there are thousands of jokes I regret telling on this program."

On a more sober note he added, "I would never made jokes about someone having sex with a 14-year-old girl."

He also read a statement from Governor Palin's Web site, in which she and her husband referred to Letterman's remarks as "disgusting," and accused him of implicitly condoning sexual abuse of minors.

The controversy hit just as "Late Night" moved into the number one spot for late-night talk shows, as

However Letterman may feel about the grassroots campaign to get him axed over the joke, he probably isn't surprised.

Patrick Kennedy temporarily leaving Hill for rehab

(CNN) – Rep. Patrick Kennedy, the Rhode Island Democrat who in 2006 checked into a rehabilitation center for drug addiction following a car accident on Capitol Hill, is again seeking medical treatment.

In a statement issued by his office Friday, the son of Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy said, "I have always said that recovery is a life-long process and that I will do whatever it takes to preserve my health."

"In consultation with my doctors, I have decided to temporarily step away from my normal routine to ensure that I am being as vigilant as possible in my recovery," he said. "I hope that in some small way my decision to be proactive and public in my efforts to remain healthy can help remove the stigma that has served as a barrier for many Americans reluctant to get the help they need."

The Providence Journal reported Friday Kennedy has "entered an undisclosed medical facility for treatment."

After crashing his car into a Capitol Hill barricade in 2006, Kennedy admitted to an addiction to prescription medication and spent a month in a rehabilitation center in Minnesota.
